Volunteering

Interested in volunteering at Salem Middle School?

We have numerous community partners who volunteer in our schools each day, working one-on-one with students to help them reach success. Volunteers serve as tutors, mentors, and business partners, providing valuable support to our schools.

We urge members of the community to get involved in our schools to help us better serve all of our students. Once thought to be the province of parents, our schools are eager to involve the entire community including individuals, senior citizens, college students, businesses, churches and synagogues, community groups and others in support of education.

Registration with WCPSS

Anyone who wishes to volunteer at Salem Middle must register with WCPSS as a volunteer. You only need to register once per school year regardless of how many children you have or the schools they attend. Register here: https://www.wcpss.net/volunteer

Signing In as a Visitor

When visiting Salem Middle School, please report directly to the front office to sign in. You must use the front entrance to the building. This is for the safety of all students. You will receive a text message after signing in. When you leave the building, you may click on the link in the text message to register your departure.

Identification

All visitors must be wearing the badge issued to them at the main office. The visitor registration station in the main office will print one for you. It is important that you display this badge prominently as you walk through the school. Staff members will ask to see your badge and escort you back to the main office if you do not have one.

What would you like to do? When would you like to do it? We’ll gladly work with you to find a way that you can help—involvement is for everyone. There are five types of volunteering:

Event Volunteers 

• Descriptions

  • Acknowledged by the Board 

  • Commitment level: Participation can be limited to just the single event or time you allot for volunteer service

  • Meeting Requirements:  At-will general membership meeting attendance

  • Positions appointed by or approved by the Board

  • Commitment level: Regular participation (depends on the activity related to services, programs, etc.)

  • Meeting Requirements: Regular general membership meeting attendance requested

Special Committee Chairpersons 

• Descriptions

  • Positions appointed by the Board

  • Commitment level: Active participation (a few times per month)

  • Meeting Requirements: Expected leadership meeting attendance; required general membership meeting attendance
